From calling for a more robust approach to retail crime - including retail security grants and a visible Neighbourhood Police presence - to a reduction in cost pressures for businesses - whether that is taxation from Government or higher commercial costs - as well as reducing burdensome regulation, the Fed always speaks up for our members.

Action on retail crime
The Federation always works to ensuring the concerns of members worried about rising retail crime and theft are heard at the highest level in Government, the police and by the media. -
Controlling costs and taxation
The Fed has a track record of highlighting the impact of rising taxation and business costs facing small retailers, and this includes explaining the impact of higher National Insurance Contributions and Business Rates for small shops, as well as rising input costs like increases in energy bills. -
Challenging regulation
There continues to be significant regulatory change facing the independent retail sector and the Fed works hard to ensure the voice of small shops is heard. This includes a wide-range of changes from the Employment Rights Act, to the Single-use Vape Ban to changes of HFSS (High Fat Salt and Sugar) rules. Our members work in small teams and don't have big teams to support them when regulatory changes are implemented - we demand Government introduces proportionate regulatory change and we help members understand it when they do bring about change. -
Deposit Return Scheme for recycling
The Fed is working hard to ensure that members understand the potential benefits of DRS including making their towns and villages tidier whilst boosting their footfall - whilst also helping push for a DRS which is cost-neutral for shops.
